BASIC FOUNDATION SKILLS CLASSES
BASIC FOUNDATION SKILLS I

A well-trained dog is easy to live with!

Enjoy walking your dog again.

Do you want a calmer, more attentive family dog who knows how you want them to behave?
Just like kids, your dog needs to go to school. At Give Us Paws, we don’t only train service dogs, we provide training for family and pet dogs, too! We customize training to your dog’s specific needs and your schedule with a variety of training options.

These Karen Pryor Academy classes are designed to teach owners “foundation skills” and dogs “foundation behaviors.” Owners will learn how to train their dogs without resorting to corrections, punishment, or force. The dogs will learn important “foundation behaviors” which will enable them to be the socially acceptable family dogs that caring owners desire.

A “foundation skill” is a skill that an owner and/or their dog need to know in order to enable a lifetime of successful learning. A “foundation behavior” is a specific action that is eventually put on cue, such as sitting politely for petting, walking nicely on leash, settling, or coming when called.

There are a total of nine foundation behaviors in this program and each behavior has up to 4 levels of learning and achievement. Instructors will track the progress of each owner and their dog as they learn each foundation skill and behavior at each level. Once successful at a particular level they will begin working on the next level of the behavior. This ensures each owner and dog is successful at each level and are able to progress at their own individual rates of learning.

We offer private lessons where we work one-on-one with you training your dog. Our private trainers focus on the goals and behaviors that are most important to you.

Private training offers a wide selection of alternatives to group training. For busy people; for a family with little enough time for the kids, let alone the dog; for people with disabilities or physical problems, scheduling problems, split shifts, or other issues that make regular class attendance difficult; for people who want to zero in on a specific behavior without attending a class. If any of these is you, we offer many training options to help you get the dog of your dreams.

In our private lessons, we tailor the training for your specific, individual needs. At each lesson we’ll work with you, then give you a homework assignment to practice between your lessons.

If you need to enhancing your class training with some extra practice, sharpening already-learned behavior, working with you one-on-one to fix a behavior, or coaching you to reach your goals, whatever you’re looking for – we’re here for you.

Leading the classes will be Paul Buescher, CPDT-KA, KPA CTP, Director of Give Us Paws.

PUPPY START RIGHT PRESCHOOL
PUPPY START RIGHT PRESCHOOL

Most people understand the importance of socializing puppies, and there are numerous puppy classes available. However, many classes are not true socialization classes. Instead, they focus primarily on obedience training. While obedience and manners training are important components of behavior, at the puppy stage the focus should be on ensuring that the puppy is having positive experiences with as many new people, dogs, and situations as possible. This exposure is essential for developing a confident and well-adjusted adult dog that is comfortable with all life has to offer.

Give Us Paws offers puppy parents a safe way to socialize their puppies properly. We educate pet parents about how to prevent problems before they begin, how to address typical puppy behaviors, and how to address behavior issues through early intervention. This program has been recognized by and well-received within the veterinary community. Many veterinarians and vet staff members have participated in the course with their own puppies. In fact, the Puppy Start Right course has been called the best program for providing good social experiences for puppies before they are fully vaccinated.

If you plan on training your puppy as a service dog, it is essential that they get the right start. With Puppy Start Right classes, you will have the edge when it comes time to test for service dog temperament and aptitude for learning.
